Con Edison Selects IPVideo C3 Fusion
Con Edison, one of the largest power companies in the US has selected IPVideo Corporation’s C3 Fusion as the centerpiece of the company’s new state of the art security operations center. The operations center went live early in 2008.
The power company specified IPVideo C3 Fusion as a solution that considered both current and future technology. The utility has a substantial investment in Pelco/Integral legacy equipment and required that this be integrated into the new system. The Video Wall and Display Application were to be provided by Activu.
IPVideo C3 Fusion was required to be IT standards-based, maintain compatibility with future technology development, have an infrastructure that is independently scalable and upgradeable, and support interoperability between disparate components and systems.

The legacy infrastructure consists of hundreds of Pelco cameras managed by Pelco Integral DS Express and Pelco Integral DS RealVue DVR’s, located in facilities throughout a major metropolitan area. Various WAN links connect the facilities, but the available bandwidth at each location varies and the throughput cannot be guaranteed. These WAN deficiencies had to be addressed to ensure reliable video transmission.
The solution provided by IPVideo Corporation includes four C3 Fusion IP Video Routers managing the connections and providing the transcoding resources. IPVideo C3 Fusion captures video from remote Integral DVRs and displays this on video walls and other types of computer monitors or panels. The system design provides necessary extensive WAN resource management while interfacing with and capturing video from Integral DVR’s, and transcoding this video into a standard format for local re-transmission and display. Simplified network browser-based administration minimizes operational complexity and training hours.
